Vietnam
A country scarred by decades of bombings
Since the end of the Vietnam War, the country has remained heavily contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war. Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of unexploded munitions are believed to still be scattered across the territory. More than 100,000 people have been killed or injured in accidental explosions.
Exploratory missions to assess needs
In 2007, FSD strengthened its relations with the Vietnamese government through the Embassy of Vietnam in Bern. Two field visits were organised in three central provinces to assess the situation and identify needs related to humanitarian demining and the management of risks associated with unexploded munitions.
For nearly 30 years, FSD has been working to make land safer. Explore the key milestones of our humanitarian work since our first demining operation in 1998.
