Training veterans in humanitarian demining
The aim of the programme is to train participants in humanitarian demining techniques adapted to their health conditions, such as the use of drones and remote-controlled machines, while addressing the urgent need for qualified humanitarian deminers.
The head of the veterans’ centre encouraged me to give it a try. I was fortunate to be among the twelve people selected, and I am proud to be part of this effort.

Eleanor Porritt, FSD Country Director in Ukraine
With one-third of the country contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war, the need for demining is substantial. Through the specialised training provided by FSD, Oleksandr and eleven other veterans have gained skills in operating drones, ground preparation machines, and detectors, contributing to humanitarian demining efforts. “This programme represents an opportunity for me to reintegrate, acquire new skills, and find a new purpose”, Oleksandr concludes.
