This month in Iraq was marked by significant achievements. Despite the challenges of high temperatures, our teams continued to conduct clearance operations and raise awareness about the dangers of explosive ordnance.
To combat the high temperatures this month, the field staff made it a priority to stay well-hydrated. Continuing their efforts, the clearance teams encountered significant levels of explosive ordnance (EO) contamination, specifically in the Dibis District. Since the program began, a significant milestone was reached in the month by clearing 30,000,000m2, which is equivalent to 4,202 FIFA-approved football pitches. Both the field and office staff have put in a truly remarkable collective effort. During the month, the staff spent time with their family and friends while celebrating Eid al-Adha.
The mechanical clearance team began its operations in Kharbani village, Makhmour District. Making good progress, the team has 14 buildings to be completed.
Throughout the month, the risk education teams in the districts of Makhmour and Dibis maintained the safety of the local population by actively engaging in EORE awareness training.
The non technical survey team’s excellent work in the Makhmour District during the month has resulted in the assurance of a significant number of tasks for the future of our manual clearance team operations. The NTS team in Dibis District assisted the team leaders in operational planning for current hazardous areas by carrying out drone reconnaissance activities.
Mr. Matt Wilson, FSD Head of Operations, was warmly received and appreciated when he visited during the month.
Throughout the month, the field staff diligently accomplished their refresher training, safety toolbox topics, and online training courses.
