The clearance teams, during the month, continued their exceptional work, clearing 665,125 m2 and rendering safe 83 improvised explosive devices and 18 unexploded ordnance. We reached a significant milestone during the month by clearing 32 million square meters of land in Northern Iraq since the beginning of the project’s clearance operations.
Through their ongoing work in Kharbani village, the mechanical clearance team has found four more buildings that require rubble clearance.
Every day, deminers receive a morning briefing in the field before starting the day’s operations.
Outstanding effort by our explosive ordnance risk education teams, who reached over 2,014 women, men, girls, and boys, and provided high-quality risk education sessions. The local community can safely conduct their daily activities, thanks to the significant efforts made by the explosive ordnance risk education teams. Supporting our team leaders in planning, the non-technical survey team was engaged in drone reconnaissance activities.
With the leadership of the Directorate of Mine Action staff, two staff members accomplished a 5-day Mine Action Efficiency Course. The knowledge gained from this training course was extremely valuable.
FSD deminers regularly undergo refresher training sessions, including on various clearance and safety procedures.
Throughout the period, the teams meticulously completed ongoing refresher training and safety toolbox topics. The staff members completed an online training course on Effective Directing and Delegating.
We presented our achievements to distinguished guests, such as Mr Seungcheol Lim (Consul General of the Republic of Korea), Mr Daniel Hunn (Swiss Ambassador to Iraq), Ms Nadia Vonlanthen (Swiss Deputy Ambassador to Iraq), and Mr Dler Karadaghi (KRI Liaison Officer) over the month. FSD Iraq’s presentations, improvised explosive device disposal practical demonstration display, and efforts to assist the communities to be mine free, impressed the esteemed guests.
