Safely completing the manual clearance of over 500,000 m², FSD clearance teams also successfully made safe 40 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 16 unexploded ordnance (UXOs), showcasing their excellent work throughout the month. The teams’ significant efforts contribute to the safety of the local communities.
In the month, a task order approval for Makhmour was received. The team supervisor conducted a news story which highlighted the “ruins to the renewal” of the local community of Kubaiba village. It was a very inspiring story showing the resilience of the villagers to overcome the tragedy of war and rebuild their lives for a better future.

Having completed the processing of two buildings, the mechanical clearance team has now finished 50% of their activities for Kharbani village. Seven IEDs were successfully made safe.
Explosive ordnance risk education teams, by reaching out to over 1,500 women, men, girls, and boys in both Makhmour and Dibis Districts, made a significant impact. After obtaining approval from the National Mine Action Authority (NMAA), the non-technical survey team in Dibis district secured 3.2 million square meters for our planned future clearance activities.
FSD’s teams give risk education sessions on the risks of explosive ordnance to children who are particularly exposed to this threat.
In Switzerland, the FSD Iraq national operations manager finished a Land Release training course. This course significantly benefitted and enhanced our programme’s capacity development objectives.
Throughout the month, the team completed continuous refresher training, safety toolbox topics, online training courses, and a 6-monthly Render Safe Procedure (RSP) recertification training assessment.
